China Study author-scientist declares low-carb diet a ‘fraud’

Read more: untitled One of the authors of The China Study, a well-known research project that evaluated the relationship between nutrition and disease, has come out in condemnation of health advice that recommends reducing or eliminating carbohydrate intake for better health. Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a nutrition scientist, maintains that low-carb diets are a “fraud,” and that not eating grains may cause some people to develop cardiovascular disease or even cancer.

A vocal opponent of animal-based foods, the proteins of which he says can spur the growth of cancer, Dr. Campbell alleges that sticking to meat and vegetables, regardless of their type or origin, is a major health threat. We all need to be eating more grain-based foods for our health, a position he asserts is true based on his 40 years of experience in nutrition science.

According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Dr. Campbell feels so strongly that low-carb diets are harmful that choosing the standard American diet (SAD), in his opinion, is even a better option. SAD, in case you have never heard of the term, is a generalized dietary protocol that involves eating high quantities of processed foods, refined sugars and unhealthy fats.

“Low-carb, high-protein, high-fat diets cause high cholesterol – a major indicator of heart disease and cancer risks,” believes Dr. Campbell, apparently grounded in this position without question, as quoted by Elle.com.
